Allusions to Seasons and Weather: Music from a year in Norway is a set of four pieces based on Swendsen’s experience of seasonal transitions in Norway, where he lived from 2006-2007 as a Fulbright Fellow in residence at the NoTAM Computer Music Studios in Oslo. Each composition uses acoustic instruments, electronics processing, and field recordings to evoke a sense of time and place. While each of the four pieces has been performed in the US and Europe, this concert is the first full performance of the entire set and features the performers for whom each piece was originally composed.

MIT Program Description - The EAR Duo in collaboration with EMMI and composer Peter V. Swendsen present an evening of music fusing saxophones and bassoon with musical robots, live electronics, and film. In Matthew Burtner's Coral Attractions the EAR Duo plays in liquid harmony, performing on an array of coral percussion. The EMMI collective unveils MARIE, a new modular robotic ensemble, in three New Works that fuse human and machine power. Peter V. Swendsen's Northern Circles finds the duo exploring musical textures meant to evoke the summer solstice in northern Norway's Lofoten Islands. The evening winds down with Terry Riley's epic 1960s composition Dorian Reeds, accompanied by the magical film Looking for Mushrooms by West Coast experimentalist Bruce Conner.
